Alsace surprises a lot of travelers. People hear “wine region near Germany” and picture something sleepy, but the reality is a mix of serious gastronomy, walkable historic centers, and villages that are easy to explore without losing half a day in transit. Base yourself in Strasbourg and you get efficient train links, a compact old town, and quick access to the Alsace wine route tour stops like Colmar, Obernai, and Ribeauvillé. Expect clear bike paths, tidy vineyards, and restaurant reservations that matter because the food scene here is genuinely competitive. Michelin stars aren’t a novelty. They show up often.

A luxury Alsace vacation here feels structured in the best way. Wake up, grab a coffee, hop on a river barge or head toward the countryside, set up a tasting or two, then finish with dinner that reminds you France takes butter very seriously. It’s smooth to plan and even easier to enjoy.

Tell us roughly when you want to go and we’ll tailor this into a schedule that actually fits your travel style. Or read through to see what we’ve planned for you. Either way, we’ll make sure it’s perfect in every possible way.

You’ve Earned a Trip With Zero Guesswork

Trips like this don’t happen because you saved twenty posts and waited for a sign. They happen because you decided you deserve days that taste better, feel slower, and give you something real to look forward to. Alsace offers a softer kind of luxury. Long lunches. Quiet views. Wine poured by people who care about the land, not the spotlight.

If this corner of France is sitting in your mind right now, trust that. Share your travel window and we’ll set it in motion. Dates secured. Tables held. The kind of smooth planning that turns intention into an actual calendar entry, not a someday wish. You showed up here for a reason. Let’s make sure you go.

Frequently Asked Questions

  • How many days do I need for Alsace?

Five days is ideal for Strasbourg, Colmar, wine country, medieval villages and a taste of the Vosges Mountains. If you have more time, you can easily extend this to a week with extra walks, tastings and slow time.

  • Is Strasbourg a good base for exploring Alsace?

Yes. Strasbourg is efficient, walkable and perfectly placed for day trips to Obernai, Mittelbergheim and Haut Koenigsbourg. In this itinerary you then move to Colmar to be closer to the wine villages and the Vosges, which keeps travel times short and days relaxed.

  • Do I need a car for this Alsace itinerary?

You do not need to drive if you prefer not to. The itinerary is designed with a private driver and private transfers, so all movements between Strasbourg, Colmar, the wine villages and the Vosges are handled for you.

  • Is it possible to replace the private driver with a rental car?

Yes. If you prefer to be more independent, we can replace private drivers with a rental car for all or part of the trip. We then keep the same hotels, restaurant reservations and experiences, and simply adjust timings and parking suggestions to suit a self drive.

  • How do I get to Strasbourg from Paris or Zurich, and what are the other travel options?

From Paris the most convenient option is the high speed train to Strasbourg, usually taking less than two hours, followed by a private transfer to your hotel. From Zurich you can travel by direct train via Basel or by private transfer if you prefer door to door comfort. Strasbourg also has its own airport with flights from selected European cities, and we can arrange a private driver to meet you on arrival.

  • What is the best way to combine this Alsace itinerary with other destinations?

Alsace combines beautifully with Paris, the Swiss Alps and nearby regions of France. Many guests start or end in Paris, then continue to Alsace by train before travelling on to Switzerland, for example Basel, Lucerne or Zurich. You can also link Alsace with the Black Forest in Germany, or with Burgundy or Champagne for an extended food and wine journey.

  • What is the best time to visit Alsace?

Spring and autumn offer mild weather, colourful vineyards and fewer crowds. Summer is livelier in the villages and on the mountain roads. December is ideal if you want to experience the famous Christmas markets in Strasbourg and the smaller towns.

  • Can the activities in this itinerary be adjusted?

Yes. Every day can be adapted. We can shorten or lengthen walking tours, adjust the number of wine tastings, add more time in the spa or in the mountains, and modify restaurant choices to suit your pace, interests and dietary preferences.

  • I do not drink wine. Will I still enjoy this Alsace trip?

Yes. Alsace has a strong food culture, canal and boat experiences, medieval architecture, art museums and beautiful mountain scenery. We can reduce or remove cellar visits, replace them with cheese tastings, scenic drives and cultural visits, and focus on non alcoholic pairings at meals.

  • How do I reserve this Alsace luxury getaway?

Send your preferred travel dates, arrival city and how you plan to travel in and out of Europe. We will confirm hotel availability, secure your private driver or rental car, hold the restaurant tables and tastings, and then finalise a custom flow that fits your timing and style.
