Frequently Asked Questions

  • Is Franconia worth visiting if you have already explored Bavaria?

Absolutely. Although Franconia forms part of Bavaria administratively, it has a distinct cultural identity, culinary heritage and regional traditions. Its historic trading cities, celebrated vineyards and beautifully preserved medieval towns offer a different perspective on southern Germany, particularly for travellers who have already visited Munich, Neuschwanstein Castle or the Bavarian Alps.

  • How much walking is involved in this tour?

Most sightseeing takes place in historic city centres, where cobbled streets, pedestrianised areas and occasional steps are common. The walking is generally moderate and can be adjusted to individual preferences. Some attractions, including castles and historic buildings, have limited accessibility, so guests with mobility concerns should discuss their requirements before booking.

  • Are shops, restaurants and attractions open on Sundays in Germany?

Most shops and supermarkets in Germany are closed on Sundays, although restaurants, cafés and many tourist attractions remain open. Museums and historic buildings may have different weekly closing days, particularly Mondays. Your itinerary will be arranged around local opening schedules wherever possible.

  • Are there any festivals or special events worth planning the trip around?

Franconia hosts numerous wine festivals from late spring through autumn, while Bayreuth is internationally renowned for its annual Wagner Festival during the summer. Historic cities such as Würzburg, Bamberg and Nuremberg also hold traditional Christmas markets during the festive season. Travel dates can be planned around particular events, subject to availability.

  • What traditional Franconian dishes should visitors try?

Franconian cuisine is known for its hearty regional specialities, including Schäufele, slow-roasted pork shoulder traditionally served with potato dumplings, and Nürnberger Rostbratwürste, the small grilled sausages associated with Nuremberg. Other favourites include seasonal asparagus dishes, freshwater fish and traditional German pastries. Many restaurants also offer lighter contemporary interpretations of regional cooking.

  • Is this itinerary suitable for travellers who prefer a relaxed pace?

Yes. The tour uses several multi-night hotel bases rather than requiring guests to change accommodation every day. Sightseeing can be adapted to allow longer lunches, additional leisure time or fewer visits according to individual preferences. Travellers who enjoy exploring independently can also arrange a balance of guided activities and free time.

  • Can this tour be combined with other destinations in Germany or neighbouring countries?

Yes. Additional nights can be arranged in Munich, Heidelberg or the Rhine Valley, while travellers wishing to extend their holiday beyond Germany could continue into Austria or the Czech Republic. Extensions can be designed around individual interests, whether cultural sightseeing, Alpine scenery, gastronomy or additional historic cities.

  • Why choose Revigorate for a private tour of Franconia and Southern Germany?
